Termination Switch

Audio/Video Glossary - Termination SwitchA load device, usually a 75-ohm resistor, connected by a switch to a video transmission line to terminate the line. For a video signal be correctly transmitted without losses, proper impedance is essential at the end of the line. In many video-processing devices, a termination switch is therefore included as a standard feature. When the termination switch is in the Hi-Z position, the video signal is not terminated but looped to the next station. The signal can thus be transmitted in parallel through a number of devices. The termination switch terminates the final device.
